Maple Reinders team closes deal for Ontario treatment facility

Financial close has been reached on the Capital Regional District (CRD) Residuals Treatment Facility in Ontario.

The Hartland Resource Management Group (HRMG) consortium of Maple Reinders, Bird and Synagro Technologies had been named in December as the preferred proponent for the project at the Hartland Landfill (link opens in new tab).

The consortium will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the facility, which will treat residual solids produced at the CRD's new McLoughlin Point wastewater treatment plant. Anaerobic digestion will be by thickening, dewatering and a drying process, using a fluid bed dryer. The fluid bed dryer will be the first of its type in Canada, and only the second in North America.

"CRD staff developed and maintained a stringent standard for the treatment of this material," said Reuben Scholtens, director, infrastructure development for Maple Reinders. "The CRD procurement process was firm but fair, which ultimately drove the best value and a proven solution for the CRD. We are excited at the prospect of working for this client on this future-ready, best-in-class facility."
