Further water and wastewater projects planned for Ontario
The governments of Canada and Ontario have approved 44 new water and wastewater projects in 16 communities across Eastern Ontario.

Ottawa is the location for 21 new projects approved under the Clean Water & Wastewater Fund. The federal government is providing more than CA$15.8m for the projects, which amounts to half of the funding required. The provincial government is providing up to 25% of the funding for the projects - over CA$7.9m - and the city of Ottawa will provide the balance. The new funding is in addition to the CA$45m of joint federal-provincial funding announced for Ottawa on 23 May.
Schemes include a water and sewer renewal project between Lavergne Street and Ste Cecile Road in Vanier, which will reduce the risk of flooding and better protect the property and livelihood of local residents. Funding will also go towards replacing aging equipment to increase the efficiency and reliability of municipal water and wastewater treatment plants.
In addition to these projects, over CA$2.5m in federal funding is being released for 23 water and wastewater projects that will benefit 15 other communities across Ontario. The provincial government is providing over CA$1.9n for these 23 projects.
"The City of Ottawa is very pleased to have been successful with the projects approved today under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund,” said Ottawa’s mayor, Jim Watson. “Thanks to our federal and provincial partners, these infrastructure investments will ensure access to modern, reliable water and wastewater services for Ottawa residents, and will protect the health of our local water systems.”
