Further contracts awarded for Dartmouth hospital expansion

Seven further companies have won contracts for the expansion and renovation of Dartmouth General Hospital in Nova Scotia.

The government has awarded a second set of contracts for the third construction services tender as part of the QEII redevelopment project. Multiple contracts had also been awarded last week (link opens in new tab). The remaining four contracts will be awarded later this spring.

Five of the latest companies to win work are based in Nova Scotia and two in New Brunswick. The seven are:

  • Guild Contracting Specialties (2005) of Dartmouth;
  • Coastal Woodworkers of Dartmouth;
  • Dantra Specialty Products of Dartmouth;
  • Duron Atlantic of Dartmouth;
  • Twin City Painting (1979) of Dartmouth;
  • Northfield Glass Group of Moncton;
  • Apex Industries of Moncton.

The contracts are for renovations within the existing hospital and the construction of the interior of a new addition. Work includes provision of fireproofing, millwork, wall coverings, high-performance coatings, painting, an aluminum entrance, doors and frames.

The total cost of the tenders is more than CA$5.1m.

The expansion and renovations will result in the addition of 48 beds on the fifth floor, eight new operating rooms to replace four existing operating rooms and a new outpatient care space. The work also includes extensive upgrades to the entrance and diagnostic imaging areas.
