Contract awarded for Trent University research cluster

The governors of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, have authorized the award of a construction contract for the Bata Research & Innovation Cluster (BRIC).

Bondfield Construction’s CA$14.3m contract is key to a CA$18m transformation of Trent’s Bata Library to suit future needs. BRIC will integrate book and print collections with modern and expanding digital resources, collaborative spaces, research centres labs and studios.

The new cluster will include multiple centres dedicated to research and innovation and interactive student spaces. Design elements will emphasize environmental sustainability while honouring the heritage architectural legacy of the original vision of the building by renowned architect Ron Thom. Architect for the new scheme is Perkins & Will Canada.

The project is due for completion in August 2018.
