Contract awarded for makeover of Wabush Airport

A CA$13.9m contract has been awarded for the makeover of the terminal building at Wabush Airport in Newfoundland & Labrador.

Bird Construction Group has won the Transport Canada contract, which is intended to improve the functionality and efficiency of the airport. The renovation work includes changes to the terminal’s layout to improve travelers’ experiences. Work will involve demolishing and renovating the interior of the existing terminal building in phases, during which time, the airport will remain fully operational.

“The Wabush Airport is a key transportation link in Labrador and eastern Canada,” said MP for Labrador Yvonne Jones. “This investment by the Government of Canada is a commitment to our province, our people, and to renewing the infrastructure we rely upon here and throughout the country.”

Construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2019.
