Sponsorship deal secured for 150km of greenway construction

Trans Canada Trail (TCT) has agreed a sponsorship deal that will support construction of up to 150km of "greenways" as part of a recreational route spanning the country.

The two-year partnership with Clif Bar & Company will support the connection of The Great Trail, which aims to connect Canada from coast to coast to coast.

As part of the partnership, Clif will also provide samples of its bars to people along different sections of the Trail this summer. In addition to supporting the Trail's goal of full connectivity, Clif is also sponsoring interprovincial and trailhead signs featuring maps and other information for visitors.

"The inspiration for Clif Bar came to our founder on a 175-mile bike ride,” said Kevin Cleary, CEO of Clif Bar & Company. He added that, when connected, 80% of Canadians will live just 30 minutes from a trailhead. “That's a powerful opportunity for connection to the outdoors and to each other,” he said.

Not-for-profit organization TCT said that 2017 is an important milestone for a project that began as a dream in 1992 – to connect Canada through one recreational trail spanning more than 22,000km across 13 provinces and territories. TCT has been working since 1992 with donors, partners, governments, public and private landowners, and volunteers to create The Great Trail. TCT's goal is to have the Trail connected from coast to coast to coast this year, coinciding with the Canada 150 celebrations. Activities across the country planned throughout the year to celebrate the Trail's completion.
