Recladding contract awarded for government complex

The government of Canada has awarded a contract for the design and management of the exterior recladding of the government complex, Les Terrasses de la Chaudière.

The award of the contract to the joint venture Provencher Roy-Norr follows a competitive process. The estimated cost of the contract is CA$3.9m.

Provencher Roy-Norr will design and manage the exterior recladding of the Les Terrasses de la Chaudière complex, and will work with the consulting firm responsible for the overall site master plan of the complex and surrounding area. Dillon Construction is currently developing the overall site master plan for the Les Terrasses de la Chaudière complex and surrounding area..

The Les Terrasses de la Chaudière complex was originally built in 1978 and purchased by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) in 2013. It has been the long-standing headquarters for Indigenous & Northern Affairs Canada, Canadian Heritage, the Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission and the Canadian Transportation Agency.

The method of construction used for the current brick veneer on the exterior of the complex is causing premature cracking of the bricks. PSPC has installed overhead protection systems and has routinely inspected and repaired the exterior cladding.

The work is part of a project to re-imagine the design and use of the downtown Gatineau complex.

The final approval of the recladding design by the National Capital Commission (NCC) is scheduled for summer 2018, and construction is set to start in spring 2019. Federal departments, agencies and businesses located in the complex will remain there during the work.
