Plans announced for BC casino

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment has announced plans to build a casino and entertainment development in Delta, British Columbia.

The company has secured development lands at the Delta Town and Country Inn. It said that the proposed project will bring up to 700 new jobs and an estimated CA$70m investment to the Delta economy. In addition, the project will result in an estimated 500 person-years of construction employment.

The announcement follows Delta’s selection by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) as the preferred host local government for a potential new gaming and entertainment facility in the south of the Fraser region. The Corporation of Delta provided feedback that the only suitable site on which it would consider a gaming and entertainment facility at this time is the Delta Town and Country Inn.

BCLC has provided preliminary approval of this location as the site for the proposed casino and entertainment venue.

"We are very proud to be making this commitment to Delta, where we will work together to create jobs and invest in the Delta economy through this new local entertainment destination," said Tony Santo, CEO of Gateway Casinos & Entertainment. "With our $70m investment, the proposed Delta casino and entertainment property will bring new and exciting gaming, dining and entertainment options to this rapidly growing community."

Gateway's development team will work to create a proposal for review by BCLC. Once approved, Gateway and BCLC will work to engage with stakeholders and the public to receive feedback and answer questions about the proposed plans, which will then go before the Corporation of Delta for its consideration.
