Fluor wins Darlington nuclear plant refurb

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has picked Fluor Corporation for the procurement and construction of refurbishment work at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.

Fluor’s scope will include the replacement of emergency power generators for Units 1 and 2. The replacements are part of site safety and infrastructure projects under way to refurbish the power station. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

The new emergency power generators will replace the existing units that are approaching the end of their design life.

Darlington Nuclear Generating Station has produced approximately 20% of Ontario’s electricity since the early 1990s, powering more than two million homes each day.
