Contract let for Highway 97 widening

A section of the Highway 97 arterial in British Columbia is to be widened under a newly let contract.

Patterson Contracting will widen the section through the city of Williams Lake from three to four lanes. “With commercial and commuter traffic having to travel through the boundaries of Williams Lake, it is important that we improve the safety and capacity of this highway for all road users,” said minister of transportation and infrastructure Claire Trevena.

The CA$17m project involves widening a 1.5km stretch between Carson Drive and Toop Road within Williams Lake. It includes improvements to the Highway 97/Carson Drive intersection and the Toop Road intersection. In addition, a multi-use path will be constructed adjacent to the highway and improvements will also be made to the adjoining municipal network.

Completion is due in 2019.
