Contract awarded for Highway 5 passing lanes

Eagle Rock Construction has been awarded a CA$8.8m contract to construct new passing lanes on Highway 5 in British Columbia.

The new lanes are being built between Barriere and Little Fort, near Darfield, to improve safety along the Yellowhead Highway north of Kamloops.

“This project will get going fairly quickly, now that the contract is awarded,” said minister of transportation and infrastructure Claire Trevena. “Safety improvements, including the construction of a three-kilometre southbound passing lane and the extension of a northbound passing lane, will improve safety for motorists by providing more opportunities to pass.”

Improvements to the intersection at the junction of Highway 5 and Boulder Mountain Road will also be completed as part of the project.
